i love the right-wing criticism that marx was a communist because he was poor – it was literally the other way around. he was poor because he was a communist that had been kicked out of a bunch of european countries and basically had his (and by extension, his family’s) life ruined all because of his political work. funnily enough, i’ve never seen a rightist frame this in terms of an infringement of marxs free speech, but i also don’t expect them to be consistent or honest about anything so whatever
